In this article I am going to show you, how to install Cinnamon Desktop on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver. The cinnamon desktop is probably the most beautiful desktop environment available for the Ubuntu and much better than the GNOME or Unity Desktop.
To install Cinnamon on Ubuntu 18.04, we do not have to remove or modify default Ubuntu GNOME Desktop. We just install the cinnamon desktop and use it as the default desktop Environment.
Install Ubuntu Cinnamon Desktop Environment
Installing Cinnamon on Ubuntu 18.04/16.04 is very easy. All we have to do is install the cinnamon-desktop-environment package using apt-get command.
So open the Ubuntu terminal and install the cinnamon-desktop-environment package with apt-get command.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon-desktop-environment
After the installation is finished, you need to restart your computer before login to the Ubuntu Cinnamon Desktop Environment.
Log in to the Ubuntu cinnamon desktop
After the reboot, at the login screen, click on the wheel icon which you can find at the bottom beside the Sign in button.
And select cinnamon as the desktop environment (Same Way you can switch back to the default Ubuntu desktop if you want) and login to your user account.
From now on Cinnamon Desktop will be the default desktop on your Ubuntu 18.04 PC.
